September 25, 2025 - The Canadian Dental Association (CDA) recommends dentists continue to follow evidence-based guidance from Canadian health authorities and professional associations regarding the use of acetaminophen in pregnancy.

Both the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada (SOGC) and Health Canada have reaffirmed that acetaminophen remains a safe and appropriate option for managing pain and fever during pregnancy when used at recommended doses and for the shortest duration necessary. Untreated pain and fever during pregnancy can pose risks to both mother and baby, while acetaminophen continues to be recognized as an effective treatment that has been safely used by millions of Canadians for decades.

The CDA encourages patients with questions or concerns about medications during pregnancy to speak with their dentist or health care provider.
