Participatingorganizations included the
provincial dental associations (PDAs),
theAssociationof CanadianFacultiesof
Dentistry (ACFD), theCanadianDental
SpecialtiesAssociation, and theCanadian
Dental RegulatoryAuthorities Federation
(CDRAF), toname just a few.
• At theDentistryLeaders’ Forum,
participants focusedon the federal
government’s studiesof prescriptiondrug
abuseandantimicrobial resistance. The
objectivesof aworkinggroupestablished
toexamine theneed for dentistswho
arequalified toprovide special care
dentistryand to recommend strategies
for increasing their numbers,were
alsodiscussed. Theworkinggroup is a
collaborationbetweenCDA, theACFDand
theRoyal CanadianDental Corps.
• CDRAF reportedon thepending free-
tradeagreement betweenCanadaand
theEuropeanUnion. TheComprehensive
EconomicandTradeAgreement (CETA)
was signedbyCanadaand theEU in2014
but hasnot been ratified. Oneof the
CDRAF’smainconcernswithCETA is a
clause that requires regulators toprovide
temporary licenses and suitable training
toapplicantswhodonot initiallymeet
licensure requirements. CDRAF is seeking
anexemption from this clause from the
federal government.
• Canadian representatives areamong the
foundingmembersof the International
SocietyofDental Regulators, formed in
2014. The3rd International Conferenceof
Dental Regulatorswill beheld inBostonon
September 16, 2015.
Workingcollaborativelywith thePDAs,
academia, government and specialists, CDA
acts as a facilitator toensure theprofession
works together on issuesof national scope:
• CDAestablishedanational task force to
contribute to the jointHealthCanada
andAssemblyof FirstNations reviewof
theNon-insuredHealthBenefits (NIHB)
program.
• CDAestablishedanational task force to
support internationally traineddentists
inadapting toprofessional life inCanada.

and resources that arenowavailable

internationallytrained
• TheCDABoardofDirectors approveda
newCDAPrinciplesof Ethicsdocument.
Thedocument serves as a foundation
for definingadentist’s responsibilities to
patients, society, theprofessionand self.
• TheCDABoardofficially installed its
newexecutivebranch: Dr. AlastairNicoll,
president; Dr. Randall Croutze, president-
elect; andDr. LarryLevin, vice-president.
Dr. LynnTomkinsof Torontowas electedas
thenewestmember of theBoard.
