  1. Regulatory Authorities for Dentistry
  2. For detailed information on regulatory authorities for dentistry visit the Canadian Dental Association’s website on Certification and Licensure.

  4. Self-regulating Regulatory Authorities for Dental Assisting*

*Note: In PEI and NL, dental hygienists are regulated by the dental regulatory authority.

Notice to Dental Hygiene program students/graduates - While graduation from an accredited program generally means not having to take a clinical exam when applying for licensure, the Dental Hygiene Regulatory Authority (DHRA) has the ultimate authority over licensure/registration requirements and, therefore, graduates of accredited programs should be aware that the DHRA may require additional assessments as a requirement for initial licensure/registration.

Two provinces self-regulate in dental assisting. Among the remaining 8 provinces, ON and QC do not regulate dental assisting, while the respective dental regulatory authorities in BC, MB, NB, NS, PEI and NL regulate dental assisting.
