t’s aCDA serviceusedover 100,000 times
aday inCanada. But askamember of your
dental teamwhat they thinkof CDAnet and
youmaybemetwithblank stares. But the
fact that dental officesmight takeCDAnet
for grantedcouldbe seenas evidenceof its
enduring success and seamless integration
intoCanadiandental practices. Since its
introduction in1991, CDAnet hasbecomean
indispensablepart of theeverydayworkflow
involved in sendingpatients’ dental claims to
insurancecompanies.
Technicallydefined, CDAnet is “the
agreement between thedental profession
and the insurancecarrierson the format
inwhich the informationnormally found
ondental claimswill be forwarded to the
respectivecarrier electronically.” Practically
speaking, CDAnet opened thedoors for
dentists to sendpatient insuranceclaims
electronically.
In1987, threedentists conceivedaplan to
developCDAnet: Drs. TobyGushue from
Newfoundland, DonGutkin fromManitoba,
andDonMacFarlane fromBritishColumbia.
Twoyears later, Dr. BernieDolansky from
Ontario joined thegroup. In interviews
with thesemen, it’s astonishing to realize
