challenge. “At theAGM, councilmembers
agreed that oneof themainobjectives for
thecomingyearwas toconnect andunify
dentistry students across thecountry,” says
Mr. TouficBoulos, FCDSAnewlyelected
president and student at theUniversityof
Montreal. “Wewant FCDSA tobecomea true
voice for dentistry students inCanada.”
Beginning this fall, eachdental school
will host anevent to introduce incoming
students toFCDSAand let them knowhow
toget involved. Another goal for theyear
ahead is thedevelopment of aviableand
stablefinancial strategy for the federation.
AnFCDSAwebsite is also in theworks.
“Thewebsitewill soonbe launched. Our
development teamhasbeenworkingon
anonline template tomake it possible for
dentistry students tocommunicateand
sharebest practices,” saysMr. Boulos.
“It’s really inspiring,” says ShannonMunsie,
outgoingFCDSApresident and recent
graduateof theSchulichSchool ofMedicine
andDentistry. “Althoughwe’reall from
different places, our challenges and the
conversationswehaveat schools are
remarkably similar—everyone is struggling
with student debt,wishes theyhadmore
clinical experience,manyare keen togain
experience in rural communities andwish
their school offeredmoreopportunities for
spending timeupnorth.”
The Federation of Canadian Dentistry Student Associations (FCDSA) continues to
explorenewways togivedentistry students anational voiceonmatters related todental
education and patient care. In June, the group held its second annual general meeting
(AGM) inOttawa.
