This month's JCDA cover features Dr. Mary McNally (right), assistant professor in the department of dental clinical sciences at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and Mrs. Mary Cooley, a very active senior who recently completed her second term as Nova Scotia representative to the National Advisory Council on Aging (NACA).
Dr. McNally is a leader in the field of seniors' oral health research in Nova Scotia. Among her initiatives is the Oral Health of Seniors: A Nova Scotia Project, which is a collaborative, community-based research project aimed at examining the policies and continuity of care in the delivery of oral health services for seniors living in NovaScotia.
Mrs. Cooley is 77 years old and currently resides in Halifax. In addition to her work with NACA, she has represented seniors in provincial and regional health workshops, has contributed to the validation of oral health research instruments and has worked diligently to raise awareness about seniors' oral health with her NACA counterparts in Ottawa.
