OnNovember 14, theManitobaDental
Foundationwas launchedat theDare to
SmileGala fundraiser heldat theCanadian
Museum forHumanRights inWinnipeg.
TheFoundationwas established
bydentists representingacross-
sectionof thedental profession
inManitoba.
According toDr. NancyAuyeung,
president of theManitobaDental
Association, oneof the
Foundation’sgoals is toprovide
funding for dental services to
people inneed. “We realize
therearemanydentistswho
donate their time, services and funds for
manycharitableorganizations. But imagine
the impact that thedental professioncould
haveas awhole ifweall come together to
address the issueof access tocare.”
Inaddition to supportingprograms that
providedental services tounderserved
populations, theFoundationwill also
support dental outreacheducation
programs, oral health research that has a
direct impact onpatient care, anddental
student education. Itwill alsopromote
volunteerism indentistry.
“TheFoundationwas established
because it isneeded,” says
Dr. Joel Antel, president of the
Foundation’sboardof directors.
“Dentists enjoyaprivileged
position in society that bringswith it
a responsibility toensure that those in
needhaveaccess to thecarewe
provide. TheFoundationwill
serveas avehicle formembers
of our professionand thepublic
at large todonatefinancially, creatinga
resource to support programs that fill avoid
inavailabledental care.”
TheDare toSmileGala raisedover $100,000.
