abutments. Thecement seal of thenatural toothmaybecompromised
as it experiencesmovementwith loadingandas such, there is a risk
of recurrent decayaswell as intrusion. Additionally, the rigid implant
connector nowhas acantileverwhich increases the forceon thebone-
implant interfaceandabutment screw.
Ingeneral, anterior teethare less suitableabutments as they
oftenexhibitmoremobility than is tolerableby the rigid implant.
Furthermore, any lateral forces applied to theprosthesisduringexcursive
movements are translated toboth thenatural teethand implants. In
these situations, theuseof anon-rigidconnector (e.g., semi-precision
attachments)maybeconsidered. However, this is associatedwitha
higher cost for thepatient.
