We are requesting your feedback

This question was submitted by a general dentist:

I have encountered this problem several times. When a restoration or a crown is done, a space opens up between the 1st and 2nd molars. Contact is fine when the restoration or crown is placed; however, the space is noted months later. I tried replacing the restoration with amalgam, but it still opens up again. This gets even more frustrating when placing a crown. (It should be noted that in these situations, no wisdom tooth was present.)

  • Have you ever encountered such a situation?
  • Why do you think this happens?
  • Can this situation be prevented and how?
