cal applicationand techniques, or (2)basic scienceand research,
and are evaluatedby a panel of judges based onpresentation,
tabledisplayand research topic.
DaniaAlkhani from theUniversityof Saskatchewanwonfirst
prize forwork that aimed todevelopamoreeffective, less invasive
way to treat squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), compared tocurrent
treatment options. Her research identifiedacompound thatwas toxic
tomalignant cellsby testing4 syntheticcompounds against 3human
oral SCCcell lines and3 typesof non-cancerousoral cells.
Ms. Alkhaniwonanall-expensepaid trip to the2015AmericanDental
Association (ADA) Annual Session inWashington, DC,where she
representedCanadaalongsideother internationalwinnersof the
student clinicianprogram.
