tional security forces. Incollaborationwith the
RCDC,CDAguidedandsupported thedevel-
opmentoforganizeddentistry inAfghanistan
and theestablishmentof theAfghanDental
Association.CDAalsosponsored theAfghan
DentalAssociation for itselection tomember-
ship in theFDIWorldDental Federation.
TheThompsonTrophy—namedafterBriga-
dier-General (retired)W.R. Thompson, former
DirectorGeneralDental Servicesanda former
CDApresident—recognizes themost signif-
icantcontribution to thedeployed land, sea
orairoperationsof theRCDCduring theprior
calendaryearorpast several years.
ClaudePaulBoivin,CDAexecutivedirectorand
HonoraryColonelof1DentalUnit, attended
aceremony inEdmonton toaccept the
ThompsonTrophyonbehalfofCDA.
“OpATTENTIONprovidedCDAwithaunique
opportunity toworkcollaborativelywith the
RCDC inofferingguidanceandassistance to
dentists inAfghanistan. Itwasamost
rewardingexperience tocontribute to the
developmentoforganizeddentistry ina
country facing immensechallenges,” says
Mr. Boivin.
The2014ThompsonTrophywasalsoawarded
toRCDCpersonnelwhodeployed toAfghan-
istanduring theNATO trainingmission, and to
HealthCanada throughDr. PeterCooney,Chief
DentalOfficerofCanada.HealthCanadawas
recognized for itssignificant support insecur-
ingandproviding theRCDCwithavalidated
curriculum foramid-levelprovidereducation
initiative for theAfghanNationalArmy, acore
elementofOpATTENTION.
