CDA Position Statements
As the authoritative national voice of dentistry, the Canadian Dental Association (CDA) is dedicated to providing up-to-date information on issues that affect oral health and the practise of dentistry.
As part of this commitment, CDA develops position statements aimed at providing clarification on issues when there are varying points of view.
Developed and updated by CDA committees, and approved by CDA's Board of Directors, these position statements contain background information and evidence-based support of the Association's stated position on various issues.
The statements are produced primarily for the use of CDA member dentists; however, they are also made available to the general public in PDF format for information purposes. These position statements should not be used as a substitute for professional oral health care. Should you have questions about the content of these statements, please speak to your dentist, or contact CDA.
CDA’s definition of oral health:
Oral health is a state of the oral and related tissues and structures that contributes positively to physical, mental and social well-being and the enjoyment of life’s possibilities, by allowing the individual to speak, eat and socialize unhindered by pain, discomfort or embarrassment.
