New Dentist Profile: Dr. Athena Zhong By the time Dr. Athena Zhong was finishing high school in Richmond Hill, Ontario, she had already begun weaving together the threads of what would become her life’s calling. “I always loved science,” she says, “but I was also deeply drawn to the arts— especially visual and multimedia work.” For Dr. Zhong, dentistry is a way to combine her passions for working with her hands, engaging her creativity, and, most of all, connecting with people in a meaningful way. But it wasn’t until she shadowed her family dentist—someone who had cared for her since childhood—that it all clicked. “What struck me was the relationships,” Dr. Zhong says. “They knew my family. They watched me grow up. That sense of continuity in care across different aspects of life was so beautiful to me.” That summer experience cemented her decision to pursue dentistry, a profession she saw as the perfect intersection of art, science and compassion. And in many ways, her name Athena, after the Greek goddess of wisdom and crafts, felt prophetic. “I believe that is why dentistry feels so right to me,” she smiles. “Every filling is a way to use my knowledge and craftsmanship to make a positive difference in people’s lives!” Connect with Dr. Zhong online on Instagram @drathenazhong or X @drathenazhong.
