Dr. Boyd’s appointmentwas for “her
contributions to thefieldof dentistryand for
her stewardshipof theprofession.”
In itsofficial press release, theGovernor
General’sofficenoted: “MarciaAnnBoyd
hashelped tochange the faceof dentistry.
Ahighly regarded teacher andacademic
administratorwith the facultyof dentistry
at theUniversityof BritishColumbia, she
has longbeencommitted to improving
standardsof educationandpractice. As the
firstwoman tohold several leadership roles
withinher profession, she strengthened the
accreditationandcertificationprocesses for
dentistry inCanada, andhelpedpave the
way forwomen in thefield.”
Dr. Boyd servedasdeanof the facultyof
dentistryatUBCand iswell known for her
accomplishments indental education,
bothnationallyand internationally. Shewas
the foundingpresident of theEducation
ResearchGroupof the International and
AmericanAssociations forDental Research
andwas thefirstCanadianwoman to serve
aspresident of theAmericanCollegeof
Dentists. Currently, she is a senior associateat
ROI Corporation.
