Oneof thebiggest challenges facingdentistry
today, inhisopinion, isaccess tocare. “There’s
noquestion—therearepeopleout therewho, for
one reasonor another,
cannot accessdental
care. And they’re
suffering,”he says. “I
thinkCDAhasmadea
great step forwardwith
theNationalOralHealth
ActionPlan.” Continuing

focused itsdiscussionson improvingaccess tocare
for thosemost inneed, isoneof hispriorities.
Upholdingprofessionalismandethics indentistry is
anotherprimeconcern. Hebelieves thatdentistsare
here to serve thepublicbyprovidingpatientswith
the treatments theyneed. He says, “I feel that the
notionofdentistryasanessential health service to
thepubliccan sometimesget lost.”
All in the family
Hispassion fordentistry is sharedwithhisdaughter,
Jodi, oneof his four children. “I’vebeenvery
fortunate tohave Jodi asanassociate inmypractice,”
he says. “Weworkverywell together. I’m there if she
needsme, if shewantsanyhelp, and I learn from
her toobecause she’sup to speedon the latest
technology. Lotsof times I go toher looking for
advice.”

For someonewhounderstands the importanceof
givingback throughcommunity leadership, the
adviceheoffers todentists just startingout isnot
surprising. “Take time tobe involved, notonlywith
your familyandyour community, butwithyour
