Board of Directors

The Board of Directors consists of the President, President-Elect and Vice-President, and one (1) director appointed by each Corporate Member. The Executive Director of the Association is a non-voting director ex officio.

The members of the Board are accountable to the Voting Members of the Association and represent CDA as a whole.

Directors are elected or appointed for a term of two (2) years and are eligible to serve up to six (6) years as directors on the Board of Directors, plus any one-year terms served as President, President-Elect and Vice-President.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Board of Directors

The complete list of duties of the Board is detailed in sections 6.01, 9.08 and 9.09 of the CDA General Bylaws. Among their duties and responsibilities are the following:

  • to identify and manage strategic issues
  • to recommend strategic direction to General Assembly
  • to set plans to achieve strategic objectives and approve general policy, standards, guidelines
  • to liaise with corporate members
  • to establish committees & their structure, appoint reps to outside bodies or organizations
  • to oversee and allocate the finances of CDA
  • to develop and maintain an accountability system
  • to develop and maintain relationships with government and Canadian & international dental organizations
  • to oversee administration & management of insurance & investment programs
  • to prepare agendas for the General Assembly
